Sequence and Duration of Units in SNC1D1: Course of Study and Strategies for Success

UNIT 1: CHEMISTRY (Big Ideas: *Elements and compounds have specific physical and chemical properties that determine their practical uses; *The use of elements and compounds has both positive and negative effects on society and the environment.) Feb 01 – Mar 07 (SNC1D: Ch 5, 6, 7; SNC1P: pp. 88 – 161.) SAFETY QUIZ: Feb 05; TEST 1: Feb 21; TEST 2: Mar 07. There will be a number of quizzes throughout the unit.

UNIT 2: PHYSICS (Big Ideas: *Electricity is a form of energy produced from a variety of non-renewable and renewable sources; *The production and consumption of electrical energy has social, economic, and environmental implications; *Static and current electricity have distinct properties that determine how they are used.) Mar 18 - Apr 30 1D-Ch 11, 12, 13; 1P-pp.238-333 (6 weeks) TEST 1: Apr 2; TEST 2: Apr 30. There will be a number of quizzes throughout the unit.

UNIT 3: BIOLOGY (Big Ideas: *Ecosystems are dynamic and have the ability to respond to change, within limits, while maintaining their ecological balance; *People have the responsibility to regulate their impact on the sustainability of ecosystems in order to preserve them for future generations.) May 01 - May 30 1D: Ch  2, 3, 4; 1P: pp 2-87 (4 weeks) TEST May 30

UNIT 4: SPACE (Big Ideas: *Different types of celestial objects in the solar system and the universe have distinct properties that can be investigated and quantified; *People use observational evidence of the properties of the solar system and the universe to develop theories to explain their formation and evolution; *Space exploration has generated valuable knowledge but at enormous cost.) NO NEED TO STRESS OUT!! Preparing  for final exam is quite simple, it is as easy as 1, 2, 3. During the final exam NO NEW ideas or concepts are introduced for assessment and evaluation, therefore follow these 3 steps:
